Watch Your Head; Check the Ceiling

It's amazing how often people forget to look up...

Nomads of the 21st Century

Traveling, especially when flying, is many people's least favorite activity. You're running to catch flights, you're getting felt up by security, your contact solutions/lotions/slightly too large bottles of shampoo are being confiscated, your seat back is being kneed by a toddler and yet, in the middle of that, there are still moments of ordinary beauty. I very much am a believer in photography, that perfect shot, being everywhere in nearly every moment. You just have to know when to click.

I have a thing for shadows...

...well for shadows and reflections. If I said I considered this to be a problem, I would be lying. It's a love affair for the ages. One for the books, the photo books.

Watching and Waiting

Roof-top statues loom protectively over the grounds of central Vienna. It's entirely out of context but for some reason this photo seems eerily appropriate today as there seems to be a tangible pull of anticipation in the air. The old gypsy mystic in me says somethings coming, but what? Alas my crystal ball is broken, tea leaves discarded and cards bent. We'll just have to wait and watch.

Zoo Lights

Everyone is a bigger fan of the zoo lights in their childhood zoo than of anywhere else, and while this trip to the National Zoo certainly didn't debunk the commonly recognized fact, it was good to experience...and take pictures of. Being a sucker for lights at night no matter where or how you string them, I was bound to enjoy my short time wandering the rain slicked paths with some pretty great people.

Happy New Year everyone. (Oh, and check out The 365,000 Words of a Year. My 2011 New Years Resolution: One picture every day. I'll be posting them there. Lets see where this year takes me.)

The Days of a Pub Culture

It's certainly true that the best times you can have are when surrounded by friends. And no where is there an atmosphere better suited to this particular hang-out world than the pub culture that permeates the Czech Republic. It may be freezing and dark outside (as it is a good portion of the year there) but inside, downstairs, and/or in the back corners of some of the county's most unique restaurants you can find friends, food and frothy cheer in enough plenty to set even the coldest of hearts aglow.

White Wanderings

In honor of the first snow of the season, I'm taking a look back at the lovely scenes of Snowpocalypse 2010.

It may have shut down the entire city for days on end (truly pathetic in the eyes of a Chicagoan) but as I was still only a visitor to this lovely city, I had a splendid time frolicking and shirking all responsibility. At weekend's end I just drove away, leaving a beautiful, white weekend behind.
